I rise with the dawn on this old wooden deck
The sails hang heavy the air's thick with salt
The sun claws its way up from the eastern sea
Painted blood-red like a warning unfurled
Red sky in the morning sailors take warning
The rhyme's been carved in my bones since I was a boy
But the crew laughs and jokes they hoist the lines high
As if the sky's just another pretty light
Why don't they see it? Why don't they care?
The red burns deep in my chest like a flare
We all saw the same cursed dawn today
Yet they sail on blind to the coming fray
Am I the only one heeding the call?
Alone with my fear as the storm clouds crawl
Red sky this morning and nobody's worried
It's not good it's not good and I'm the only one who sees
I point to the horizon my voice rough with dread
"Look lads the devil's got blood on his head!"
They shrug and they smile pour rum in their cups
Say "It's just the light boy don't stir up the fuss"
But I feel it in the wind the low growl of change
The waves whisper secrets that the others can't hear
The barometer drops the gulls scream and flee
Yet they sing their old shanties carefree as can be
Why don't they see it? Why don't they care?
The red burns deep in my chest like a flare
We all saw the same cursed dawn today
Yet they sail on blind to the coming fray
Am I the only one heeding the call?
Alone with my fear as the storm clouds crawl
Red sky this morning and nobody's worried
It's not good it's not good and I'm the only one who sees
Shouldn't somebody be reefing the sails?
Shouldn't we turn back before the thunder prevails?
The sky's screaming warning but their ears are shut tight
I'm left on the deck staring into the night
That morning red sky burns deep into my fears
A promise of trouble that's drawing so near
I stand here alone with the truth in my sight
While the others dance on into the fight
Why don't they see it? Why don't they care?
The red burns deep in my chest like a prayer
We all saw the same cursed dawn today
But I'm the only one who knows what it means to pay
Red sky this morning and nobody's worried
It's not good it's not good and I'm the only one who sees
The only one who sees...
The only one who sees...
The only one
