Out on the water line screaming tight
He hit like thunder in the morning light
Rod bent double reel singing loud
This mighty fish wore a warrior's shroud
He ran and he jumped fought with all his might
Twisting and turning through the currents' bite
Now he's in the net beleaguered and worn
Breathing heavy like a storm that's torn
I hold him gentle let the water flow through
Give him a moment to come back anew
I fought him really hard pushed him to the edge
Don't think that one's gonna make it lying there on the ledge
Eyes going dim in the morning sun
He gave it everything wonder if he's done
But wait there's a flicker a spark in his eye
A little bit better maybe he won't die
If I can be patient keep the hope alive
I believe I can release him let this fighter survive
There he moves again tail kicking slow
Coming back strong like a river's flow
Moving like a fish the way God intended
Asking to be free this fight finally ended
He turns toward the deep slips out of my sight
Swimming to the bottom vanishing from the light
Thank God he was a fighter never crossed the line
Gave it everything he had when his life was on the line
He nearly paid the price for that wild wild run
But he held on tight till the battle was won
Now this big fish has a whitewater heart
Beating strong and fierce as he makes his new start
He's swimming free far away from me
Dodging my shadow across the sea
A whitewater heart in the deep blue cold
The story of a warrior that never grew old
Thank God he was a fighter he never gave in
Gave it everything he had let the real winner swim
He nearly paid the price but he turned it around
Now he's gone to the depths where true freedom is found
This big fish has a whitewater heart
And he's swimming free... swimming free
Far away from me
Swimmin' free
Away from me
