Choose a track to play
He walked home with a limp from the first day of third grade
A mile and a half across the tracks - the sky was spitting rain
A truck was in the driveway - a suitcase at the door
A man mother said to be aware of was smoking on the porch
He had a three inch scar from his ear to the corner of his smile
Said to the boy “what’s wrong with you - don’t tell me you’ve been crying
You’ve got to stand up to those bullies, kid, ‘cause real men don’t run scared
Gotta harness all that rage if you wanna get somewhere
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you
He was angry at his family he was angry at the world
He was a little socially awkward - especially with the girls
He went looking for connection and he found it there online
All the Facebook groups, Reddit boards and porn that he could find
Life never felt that fair to him so it did not seem right
To say that he had privileges just for being white
He joined up with some brothers who were speaking to his pain
Saying let’s take back America and make it great again
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you
They met outside of Charlottesville to plan their protest out
Then all put on their white shirts and headed into town
There were people just like bullies who were yelling in his face
And the hate was like a pressure cooker turned up all the way
When the march was over it did not feel like a win
Just another checkmark on the list of getting robbed again
When he got into his Challenger his voices were so loud
He saw the crowd near Water Street and slammed the pedal down
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you places
Your anger’s gonna take you
He don’t get many visitors - people from his past
But one day he saw that three inch scar looking through the glass
Said “You filled my head with half truths but the half you never told
Is that anger’s gonna take you places you don’t want to go
