The moon pulls hard the waters rise
Flooding in with a hungry sigh
Waves crash high on the sandy shore
Rushing in forevermore
Then the turn comes the current slows
The ebb begins where the flood once flowed
Out it goes pulling back to sea
Carrying secrets wild and free
Oh slack tide the quiet in between
Where the water rests no rush no scene
No in no out just a moment still
The sea holds its breath against its will
Water rushing in water rushing out
But in the slack it leaves the current without
A pause in the dance of gravity's debt
Where the ocean resets and turns the other way yet
The moon repays what the sun demands
Bulges rise on opposing lands
But here in the bay the chaos fades
No roar of waves no crashing blades
The surface smooth as a mirror's face
Deep below the forces race
A fleeting calm before the fight
The tide reverses in the night
In that hush the world feels right
Predators and prey in equal light
The debts of pull and flow are paid
In silence all the storms are stayed
For just a breath the earth is free
From the endless push of sea to sea
Oh slack tide the quiet in between
Where the water rests no rush no scene
Water rushing in water rushing out
But in the slack it leaves the current without
A moment gravity repays its debts
The still where the ocean resets and turns the other way yet
So sail the slack when the world is calm
Catch the pause in the tidal psalm
For soon the current will wake and run
But for now the tide has just begun...
