Oh, tongue can accuse and carry bad news
Seeds of distrust it will sow
But unless you make no mistakes in your life
You better be careful of the stones that you throw
A neighbor was passing my garden this evening
And I knew right away that it was not flowers
But gossip that she had on her mind
My neighbor walked over to me and said
"That bad girl down the street, she be run from our midst
She drinks and she talks quite a lot
She knows not to talk to me and my child"
My neighbor looked at me and smiled and, and I thought to myself
Oh, tongue can accuse and carry bad news
The seeds of distrust it will sow
But unless you make no mistakes in your life
Be careful of the stones that you throw
A car sped by with the screaming of the brakes
A sound that made my blood chill
But that same neighbor's one child had been pulled from the path
And saved by a girl lying still
The child wasn't hurt and my neighbor cried out
"Oh, who was that brave girl so sweet?"
I covered the crushed, broken body and said
"The bad girl that lived down the street"
Oh, tongue can accuse and carry bad news
Seeds of distrust it will sow
Oh, but unless you make no mistakes in your life
You better be careful of the stones that you throw
