Left Bellevue in the morning grey 405 just waking up

Windshields humming coffee cooling radio low headlights up

The sky hung heavy over Lake Washington like I knew where I was bound

Every mile pulling east every mile breaking ground

Snoqualmie wore a frozen breath clouds wrapped tight around the hill

Road was wet but holding steady white lines cutting through the chill

Fog rolled low across the pass tires whispered don't rush this now

I eased on through the silence let the mountain show me how

Cle Elum moving wide and brown pines stood still the air turned thin

Snow hit deep where shadows stay but the highway pulled me in

Grey gave way to open land where the light fell soft and pale

Just me and that long eastbound line running straight through Kittitas Vale

Columbia Basin spread its breath cold fields sleeping under sky
