Running through the desert, my life I seek
From the very beginning, it's been like this
Always trying to find a job or something to eat
I remember my mother, may she rest in peace
When my father left her, she said to me
"Always take good care of the ones you love, my dear
And try to assure them all the things they need to live"
And so I did, my mother, and thought it'd be a crime
And you know I would work and break my body for a dime
But a man of my condition is not allowed to live
I'd do anything to take care of my kid
And so here am I running but the chase is done
I'm tired and I'm hearing the sound of the guns
I'm falling into sheriff hands, I'll soon be gone
For he's taking me to see the court in town
Already know the verdict, I'll be hanged down
And all the people from the state will love to be around
But worst of all, it can't be my son who'll see me fall
I'm so sorry, your honor, for the sins I committed
Now I can truly say that I deserve my liberty
It's hard to get a piece of bread in the land of the free
I'd do anything to take care of my kid
But I'm sure if my kid's alive, I wouldn't die in vain
This little boy will soon be a man, and he'll never forget
He'll try to make a change to all this blood inside his veins
And soon our brother's lips will stop from suffering
Crying, aching, dying, yeah
I'm so sorry, your honor, for the sins I committed
Now I can truly say that I deserve my liberty
It's hard to get a piece of bread in the land of the free
I'd do anything to take care of my kid
But I'm sure if my kid's alive, I wouldn't die in vain
This little boy will soon be a man, and he'll never forget
He'll try to make a change to all this blood inside his veins
And soon our brother's lips will stop from suffering
Crying, aching, dying, yeah
