I Do What I Do

I don't pay attention to the people

Who don't understand the things I do

I do them anyway

I don't pay attention to the skeptics

Or the unbelievers passing through

They don't have much to say

Anyone who has the time for criticism

Isn't my idea of someone smart

I would rather be alone

Than have my best ideas ripped apart

I do what I do 'cause I like what I do

And I do, do, do like you

And if you like drawing comics

Then I like your comics too

I do what I do, be it old, be it new

That's not for me to say

I do what I do 'cause I like what I do

And I love my life this way

Think of all the thousands daily laboring

To make their voice original

It's easier said than done

One in all the thousands who can rise above

The uninspiring and the dull

Call me the lucky one

Every day I toil away at words and music

Working to unlock a sacred sound

Hoping that I lose myself

So someday I can finally be found

I do what I do 'cause I like what I do

And I do, do, do like you

And if you like graphic novels

I'll be probably graphic too

I do what I do, for a lot, for a few

Let fortune bring what may

I do what I do, let 'em cheer, let 'em boo

I still love my life

Do I look like the guy who fixes cars?

I'm more the kind who walks among the stars

So I've never scored a goal

Can't fix the ozone hole

Won't win the Super Bowl

Or land on Mars

But I know a thing or two about make-believing

Some say it's magical, some self-deceiving

Still, I do what I do

Every day, a debut

A treasure yet to find

Let them tear my work to pieces

I still have my peace of mind

Go do what you do and as long as it's true
