Raised out in Grape Creek, Illinois,
Where the corn stands tall and the summer skies are wide.
Country livin' the only way I know,
Hunting crawdads down in that muddy creek below.
Barefoot in the water, bucket in my hand,
Chasin' those pinchers across the rocks and sand.
Mama hollerin' supper from the porch so clear,
We'd come runnin' home, never wanderin' too far from here.
Oh, I'm proud of Grape Creek, proud of where I'm from,
Westville Tigers spirit beatin' like a drum.
Nineties school days, laughin' with my friends,
Feels like yesterday, and I'd live it all again.
Every Labor Day, down old Route 1,
Whole town comes together, smilin' in the sun.
Wave to your neighbor, throw some candy to the kids,
See everybody there—Lord, that's just how it is.
Playin' in the woods till the fireflies glowed,
Stayin' within hollerin' distance, that's the rule we knowed.
Buildin' forts from branches, swingin' on grapevines,
Runnin' wild and free in them summer times.
Friday night football under them bright lights,
Dances in the gym on Saturday nights.
Teachers who cared and friends that felt like kin,
Simple kind of livin'—man, it never ends.
From the old coal days to the fields of green,
Stories on front porches, best I've ever seen.
Ain't no place finer, no matter where I roam,
Grape Creek blood runs straight to the bone.
Yeah, I'm proud of Grape Creek, proud of where I'm from,
Westville Tigers spirit beatin' like a drum.
If you're headin' that way when September rolls around,
Come join the parade in our little town.
We'll be waitin' there with a cold drink and a grin,
See you on Labor Day—bring the whole family in.
Proud of Grape Creek... yeah, I'll always be,
Home sweet Illinois, that's the life for meeeeeeee.
