Just before this great big town

Becomes a great big buttercup

Your feet are sore

You're feeling weird

And then there it comes

The city's roar may have disappeared

But the city hums

Not a street that isn't clean and still

Not a wall that doesn't gleam and glisten

Not a roof that isn't golden, listen

Not a single drill

What a thrill

And so you're on your own

And you do feel frightened

Though you're all alone

Somehow you simply don't feel

Lonely

When it's half past four

You're half awake

And the town is dead

You think what more

Can a person take

And then overhead

Calm and quiet though the city seems

Dead asleep but still alive and teeming

What with seven million people dreaming

Of course it gleams

You watch the stars go one by one

You see the first sign of the sun
