Hey
Awoo
Granny went out past the tavern
Late on Yuletide Eve
Said she'd fetch another cider
None of us believed
Moon was full above the snowdrifts
Tracks were wide and deep
Now her boots are by the fire
And she's still asleep
You may think it sounds outrageous
You may think it's quite absurd
But don't blame ghosts or drunken elves
Blame the wolf you heard
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
Walking home from the alehouse door
You can see my pawprints in the snow
Right outside her chamber floor
She swears I sang her half to death
With lute and howling cheer
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
This cursed but festive year
She'd been boasting to the villagers
About her iron will
Said no beast nor man nor winter night
Could ever make her spill
Then I tuned my lute by candlelight
And struck a merry chord
She ran like frost was at her heels
When she heard me howl "encore!"
Now she's telling all the neighbors
With a blanket and some tea
That the wolf who chased her through the snow
Was smiling merrily
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
Sliding down the icy way
Said my tail knocked over three milk pails
As I caroled "Yuletide Day"
She lived to tell the tale just fine
Though she won't go out at night
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
By the moon's cold silver light
Now don't go blaming ancient curses
Or the mead that freely flowed
For I only meant to spread good cheer
And sing along the road
But when a wolf begins to carol
With a lute and baritone
Some folk run fast - especially grannies
Who would rather stay at home
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
But she's laughing now, I hear
Says next year she'll stay inside
When the howling's drawing near
So raise a cup and mind your step
When the moon is shining clear
Granny got chased by the wolfish bard
But she'll drink with us next year!
No grannies were harmed
Awoo - pass the pudding
