Granddad had an old alarm clock, plastic face and steel
He'd swing his feet to the cold floorboards before the sun got red
Poor Cubs stare out the window, quiet as the pines
Say a simple thank you like it saved his life sometimes
I was young and I was hurried, thinking I knew what mattered most
Chasing oars and neon living, never missing what I missed
Then I grew into the fast lane, learned to shake the right hands
Business started climbing, I was flying over new lands
I'd call home from a hotel, watching headlights slide
And I noticed when the good came, my gratitude got shy
I only talked to heaven when the wheels were in the ditch
Like a friend you only phone when you need a favor quick
One night I heard that old clock in my head, and it hit me what Granddad meant
Do it like it's holy, like it matters even small
Like the way you treat a stranger is the measure of it all
Say thank you when you're steady, say it when you're lonely
Keep your pride on a short leash, keep your heart low key
Cause a grind can make you empty, and the wind can make you lonely
So I'm living every moment, yeah I'm doing it like it's holy
Now my works and rules and hard truths, coaching through the heat
Paper trails and tightrope walking, keeping folks on their feet
Some days I feel the pressure, everybody's got a side
But I learned you can be truthful and still be kind
So I listen before I answer, I don't swing before I see
Try to hold both justice and mercy in the same two hands only
When I'm tempted to get bitter, when I'm tempted to get proud
I take a breath and I say it out loud
Do it like it's holy, like it matters even small
Like the way you treat a stranger is the measure of it all
Say thank you when you're steady, say it when you're lonely
Keep your pride on a short leash, keep your heart low key
Cause a grind can make you empty, and the wind can make you lonely
So I'm living every moment, yeah I'm doing it like it's holy
Success can make you shiny, but it can't make you whole
It can fill your calendar and still leave a crack in your soul
So if I'm blessed, let it bless somebody, not just build my name
If I'm leading, let it be kindly, leave a little room for change
I don't want a life that looks good, but don't mean nothing
I want a life that feels like love in motion
Do it like it's holy, like it matters even small
Like the way you treat a stranger is the measure of it all
Say thank you when you're steady, say it when you're lonely
Keep your pride on a short leash, keep your heart low key
Cause a grind can make you empty, and the wind can make you lonely
So I'm living every moment, yeah I'm doing it like it's holy
I'm doing it like it's holy
