The Ocean's rising up to meet
The Land's obliging and retreats
It ain't defeat, but something's gotta give
The lies they sold us with our toast
The poison juice, The Daily Post
They'd kill the host if something didn't give
Razor-bladers at the dawn
Have passed out on somebody's lawn
The postman yawns cuz something's gotta give
And what in this whole wondrous world
Is worth the color, waves and swirls?
Quit clutching pearls, something's gotta give
The ancient bones inside our soul
They love to dance and rock and roll
And rock, I'm told, even rock'll give
The world unseen, it has the keys
Unlock the box of our disease
With prayers or pleas, something always gives
The twists and turns brought me to you
A path's been tread, that makes it true
Next Steps? No clue, but something always gives
Late morning's sweetness much too rare
The Golden Light behind your hair
The world's out there, but something's gotta give
If life has taught the earth one thing
It's down is up, and deep roots bring
Sweet, splendid spring, and it all lives to give
Kings and Queens and those between
Are welcome if by that you mean
Your throne's within, cuz all that's got to give
Hot headed thoughts of bright lights burn
But glowing hearts sincerely yearn
So much to learn, and something always gives
For just the now or for all time?
I've read the world between the lines
No answer's fine, cuz something always gives
We know the music's building still
At last we're finally of the will
To keep, not kill, cuz all that had to give
If I can walk upon this land
It's ancient work that's been at hand
I'm just a man, but I'll try my best to give
