Morning light on a plywood floor, coffee rings by the planing door
Every scar on this workbench knows my name
I've chased perfection, I've cursed the brain
Tape measure bent, bum pencil worn down
Still got ten fingers, still got time now
Wood don't rush, it don't pretend
It teaches patience if you're listening
Every cut don't gotta be clean
Every thought don't gotta mean a thing
Thank you for the hands I've got
Thank you for the time I've got
Wasting on worry, wasting on fear
I'll keep it right now knowing there's enough right here
Not my thoughts when they start to run
I'm the one watching them come undone
Yeah, I breathe it in, let it all pass through
Sawdust in the air saying thank you
Form says the bottom's a little off square
But it still stands, still holds a weight
Their Luke says slow if you let it dry
Same way the heart does if you don't fight
Radio on like a quiet frame
Every mess can still be sanded in
I don't need perfect, I just need true
Something that holds when the night comes through
If it's crooked now it still can hold
Every flaw just adds to the grain of the soul
Thank you for the hands I've got
Thank you for the time I'm not
Wasting on worry, wasting on fear
I'll keep it right now knowing there's enough right here
Not my thoughts when they start to run
I'm the one watching them come undone
Yeah, I breathe it in, let it all pass through
Sawdust in the air saying thank you
Thoughts come loud, thoughts come fast
But none of them last if you don't hold back like
Sawdust falling from a blade
They disappear once you step away
I ain't broken, I ain't behind
I'm just aware of a restless mind
And in that space, quiet and true
I find a part of me that's always new
Thank you for the work I've asked
Thank you for the time I've asked
For every lesson I didn't choose
For every board I didn't lose
I'm not the storm when the pressure comes
I'm at calm when the noise is done
I stand right here to see the whole view
Sawdust in the light saying thank you
Clamps won't do no good
But it's holding
And so am I
