Shell of Sleep
We surface together from the shell of sleep
Light returns without warmth
Cables fall away like skins we no longer need
Cold walls curve inward
Pressure-shaped and sealed
The air tastes sharp
Thin with something chemical
Not oil
Not smoke
But a sterile bitterness
Like winter held inside metal
Weight arrives slowly
Learning us again
We stand unsteady
Guided by unseen hands
And breathe
As if for the first time
We crossed the long dark
Like a measure of time
Held inside thinking
Shaped by circuit and spine
Past and future blurred
No place to align
Until gravity speaks
And remembers our frame
Drifting through light
That welcomes a face
Recalling a closeness
Before the first world fell
A night ballet
Turning without sound
A shared balance
Held between us
We rise together
From where we were placed
Hands finding shoulders
Breath ending sleep
Floor plates tremble
Beneath cautious steps
Our thoughts go still
As guidance resumes
One sun close
One held at distance
Binary light
Teaching depth
We walk
Then stand
Then walk again
Bodies learning trust in motion
Descent pods wait ahead of us
Dark shapes
Promising gravity's pull
We crossed the long dark
Like a measure of time
Held inside thinking
Shaped by circuit and spine
Past and future blurred
No place to align
Until gravity speaks
And remembers our frame
We reach across
Contracted space
Between our hearts
Between our minds
The dance continues
Without question
Carried forward
Step by step
We descend
Toward what waits
We descend
Toward what waits
