There once was a prince born of a vow and a vision
Whose hands were anointed though he never knew why
He danced through the shade of his father's dominion
But never once knelt at the forge or the plow
He laughed with the court and he dined on the feast
But he never read maps never saddled the beast
The gates of his kingdom stood wide in the dawn
But he never stepped through them
And by sunset they were gone
Oh the kingdom that could have been
Written in stars and sealed with wind
It called his name like a hymn on fire
But he built no altar lit no pyre
He kept his crown in a velvet box
And watched the throne grow cold with loss
A fisherman carved his rod from willow
Tied his lures with prayer and pride
He studied the river he charted the moon
He spoke of the catch that would one day arrive
The line was cast when the morning was still
The silver came rising the promise was real
But he never set the hook never pulled the line tight
He just watched the ripples vanish in light
Oh the life that might have been
Not wrecked by sin but soft surrender
The water sang in sacred tones
He left with none though it begged him to enter
A little more reach a little more trust
And grace would have risen from ashes and dust
A hiker stood at the mouth of glory
The trailhead lined with rose and light
He took the first steps breathed in the pine
Then turned back down before midday's height
He never saw the ridge or the eagle's dive
The lake that mirrors eternity's eyes
He told himself Maybe some other year
And left the view that would've burned away fear
Oh the kingdom that could have been
Etched in covenant breath and skin
It waits at the end of the hard-chosen path
Where surrender sings and courage laughs
But we trade the climb for the comfort zone
And call it wisdom when we stay home
The kingdom still whispers don't let it pass by!
The veil is so thin and the summit's in sight
You're closer than ever just one more try!
This isn't the ending
It's where you ignite
