Lonely the road when you travel alone

Sad is the heart when your loved one is gone

Blue skies are gray skies, no spring flowers appear

Hope is a stranger who once seemed so near

Yet in your absence, I dream happy dreams

Dreams of the future while bright sunlight gleams

Hoping and praying that dreams come true

Planning the dear things once more we shall do

We'll gather lilacs in the spring again

And walk together down an English lane
