South Minneapolis, morning gray
Sirens cut through another day
Near Thirty-Fourth and Portland Avenue
An ICE raid rolls, this wasn't new
She stood nearby, badge not gun
A legal watcher, just looking at one
Yes, observing, but obstructing as well
Car moving while stopped, hard to tell
One says threat, one says fear
One says law, one wants you to hear
Trigger happy, it does sure look that way
A headshot while driving just five, that's not okay
But the larger point still rings true
Illegals are a problem, the observers are too
They say she blocked them, car too close
Shouting loud, a dangerous dose
"Weaponized," the headlines say
"Defensive fire," officials pray
A mother cries, "She was sweet and nice"
She was shot, cold as ice
Video rolls, the city stops
Truth slows down, the noise won't drop
One says threat, one says fear
One says law, one wants you to hear
Trigger happy, it does sure look that way
A headshot while driving just five, that's not okay
But the larger point still rings true
Illegals are a problem, the observers are too
The mayor speaks, voice cut with rage
Says the trigger crossed the stage
One mile from where a knee once fell
George Floyd rings a hollow bell
Same streets, same ache, same divide
Different years, the same cold side
Observers can be aggressive, not very nice
They stifle investigations, show no vice
They claim to be "just looking," but get in the way
Sometimes obstruct, hinder, have more to say
The larger point still rings true
Illegals are a problem, the observers are too
Minneapolis, hold your breath
Waiting on the weight of what comes next
This trigger-finger cop sure looks bad
Worst of all: this woman is dead
