I'd like to tell you a true story about an old lady
Who lay on a sick bed month after month after month
One day the doctors finally decided to call the family in
And they told her children said
"It's just a waste of time, there is no hope for your mother"
If I were you children, I wouldn't let
My mother suffer the way she suffered
Said "If you could just get your mother to sign these papers
In three days all of her misery could be over with"
But instead the doctors took that paper
Went to the bedside of that old lady and said
"Old lady, if you would just sign these papers
In three days all your pains, all your suffering would be over with"
The old lady didn't have much strength left
But she looked up at the doctors and said
"Uh-uh, uh-uh"
"Well," they said to the daughter said
"If you would sign these papers, we
Could carry it out with your signature"
Glory be to God, that daughter signed those papers
Signed her mother away
They took that old lady up to the terminal ward
Up on fifth floor where there was no hope
And all she could do was lay there and pass away
But they didn't realize that room that they took that old lady in
God was waiting in that room
In a few days they came back to take her body to the morgue
And they found that old lady kneeling at her bed
And they said to her, said "Old lady, we're sorry
We gave up on you a little too soon"
But the old lady said "Don't worry about it"
She said "My sickness was sickness that man couldn't heal"
She said "There is no medicine that could heal my body"
The doctor said "What's wrong?"
She looked up at him and she told the doctor, she said
"Doctor"
I was sinking deep in sin
Far from that peaceful shore
Very deeply I stayed within
Sinking to rise no more
But the Master of all sickness
Heard my feeble cry
From my sick bed He lifted me
