Beauty of the Night

I walk through the midnight and follow the moon

Absorbing the chill of a cold winter tune

I breathe in the freezing and glamorous air

And find a magnificent purity there

The falling of frost is a quiet delight

That weaves all the city in blankets of white

The working class shivers and locks up the door

To hide from the wind on a freezing wood floor

The alleys are keeping a terrible chill

That forces the bravest of voices to still

They fear the uncertain and treacherous street

Whenever they lack a reliable heat

I want all the beautiful city to glow

And light every pathway that cuts through the snow

I clear out the danger to open the door

And share all the magic I deeply adore

We claim the magnificent beauty we seize

And teach all my people to dance in the freeze!

I bribe all the council with elegant lies

So nobody suffers when daylight denies

I twist the decrees to provide for the poor

And banish the peril outside of their door

My hands are corrupt but my vision is right

I pay for the city to savor the night

The lanterns awake

For everyone's sake

The danger retreats

To warm up the streets

The wardens are paid

The fires are made

The alley is clear

The evening is free

The children can play
