Landlocked
Alone in this ghost ship of a quiet house
Floorboards talk like waves rollin' under me now
I used to chase the edges of every sundown
Now they hang on these walls like stories worn down
Kids grew fast like sparks flyin' off a steel line
Shot into the world, chasin' dreams bigger than mine
Proud as hell but the quiet cuts deep sometimes
Like a low tide pullin' at an old man's spine
This place they once shook with their noise and fire
Boots in the hallway, hearts runnin' wild and higher
Now it's calm seas, a little too still some nights
Where a man hears echoes and turns on the lights
But I'm landlocked
Still feel the ocean in my bones
Reveille hits and I stand alone
Taps drifts soft past the yard and the stones
And that flag out front in the wind hangs on
Callin' my kids back when the road feels long
Coffee steams like an engine warmin' slow
Mornings land harder with nowhere to go
But these dings in the drywall and marks on the floor
Are the trail of the days I'd live ten times more
Some men miss the sea
Some men miss the saddle
I miss the thunder of little feet
And the harmless battles
But peace has a pull like an evening tide
And it's carried me here where memories ride
Yeah, I'm landlocked
But anchored in love that won't let go
Reveille hits and I stand alone
Taps drifts quiet through the dusk's red glow
And that flag out front still waves 'em home
Any time they feel the world too cold
This landlocked heart ain't stranded
Still ridin' the tides inside.
