I used to think that love meant holding tighter

Gripping every moment so it wouldn't fade

I thought if I stayed alert stayed closer

Nothing precious could slip away

But love got quiet when I forced it

Lost its color when I tried to own

Some things don't disappear when you release them

They just learn how to float alone

I'm not walking away in anger

I'm not leaving out of fear

I'm just listening to what's honest

To what love sounds like when it's clear

Mistook control for being brave

Or pretend I don't see the signs

What stays when I stop forcing
