They called for one to bear the sign
To march before the battle line
Nae blade to wield, nae shield to stay
But hold the flag and show the way
And so she stood, so fierce, so tall
A lass among the warlord's thrall
With braid of fire and heart of steel
She raised the banner, gold and teal
Troimh theine, troimh ghaoth, troimh fhuil 's troimh bhàs
Fianna stood and ne'er looked back
Though arrows rained and warriors fell
She held the banner - it never fell
The field ran red, the sky turned black
Their foes pushed forth, they drove them back
And in the fray, a cry was heard-
A piercing sound, a dying word
An arrow struck, it found its mark
Her blood ran thick into the dark
Yet still she stood, through pain and flame
And held aloft her people's name
Troimh theine, troimh ghaoth, troimh fhuil 's troimh bhàs
Fianna stood and ne'er looked back
Though swords were shattered, hope ran thin
She held the banner - it never fell
Her breath grew weak, her hands like stone
Yet high above, the flag still shone
And seeing her, the weary rose
With one last charge, they felled their foes!
Troimh theine, troimh ghaoth, troimh fhuil 's troimh bhàs
Fianna stood and ne'er looked back
No grave could claim, no tale could tell
The strength of she who never fell
