To the one whose skin burns with pain
To the one covered in rashes, open wounds, invisible infection
To the one silently fighting HIV, lupus, eczema, psoriasis
And to you, who've been avoided, judged, or rejected because of your illness, Jesus
Has not turned away from you
He came from the shadows, a man left alone, carrying shame in his body, in his bones
No one dared to touch him, not a soul came near, but Jesus reached his hand out and cast
Away the fear
I was touched by his hand, though I was unclean
He called me beloved, when no one had seen
The sickness, the silence, could not make him leave
He touched me with mercy, and I was set free
Lord we lift to you, everyone fighting autoimmune diseases, skin conditions that cause chronic
Pain or embarrassment, those battling HIV, shingles, emerso, skin cancers, STDs
You are not ashamed of them, you are the God who touches the untouchable
He heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds
When others backed away, you came close instead
You saw my wounds, my bleeding, and whispered live not dead
Your hands not afraid, your words full of grace
You gave me back my story, when all I knew was shame
I was touched by his hand, though I was unclean
He called me beloved, when no one had seen
The sickness, the silence, could not make him leave
He touched me with mercy, and I was set free
You don't turn away, you draw even near
In the stench of my sorrow, you hold me without fear
Your hand breaks the stigma, your voice breaks the chain
You call me beloved, you restore my name
To those who've hidden your illness, to those whose scars make you feel unworthy, Jesus
Touches, Jesus heals
Say it out loud, he touched me, and I am whole
In his presence, even the rejected are restored
