Long ago I saw through eyes of innocence
My first response was always to believe
But when I took my first few steps beyond the garden fence
I wondered how I could be so naive
The things I thought I'd always see were suddenly all gone
The purest love had somehow been defiled
Some words which lingered I could hardly put my finger on
Just something I remembered as a child
"Suffer the little children to come to Me, to come to Me
"And forbid them not," is what Jesus said
I pray like a little child to be, I pray like a little child to be
Then I knew that Jesus saw me just the same
As little children precious in His sight
I almost had forgotten till I rested in His name
Just how it was to sleep so well at night
The guilt I thought I'd always feel was suddenly all gone
The purest love had somehow been restored
The peace which guards my heart now I can't put a value on
Now that I am His child and He's my Lord
"Suffer the little children to come to Me, to come to Me
"And forbid them not," is what Jesus said
I pray like a little child to be, I pray like a little child to be
