At the edge of this coast we'd seen dramas before
But this was a different affair
A thirty foot giant hard on the rocks
Lay thrashing in the waves in despair
Blood on the water said much of his plight
For all the great power of its limbs
It struggled and spouted in anger and fear
With the churning swell of its fins
So the curious came in their curious ways
And the common mood was concern
And all of us ached for the king of the deep
And the wheels were beginning to turn
Ingenious minds engaged in the task
Voices would quickly relate
That ropes and tackles seemed little enough
For a chance of a miracle made
Now the monster was harnessed with courage and skill
And the heaving invention began
In a moment of triumph I offered my praise
For the might of every strong man
There were those who can kill with no hint of remorse
Those who detest and deprave
But there on the edge of the wave-torn rocks
There were those with the power to save
Now blood on the water is quickly dispersed
But the memory it never is gone
For the spouting giant, the king of the deep
And the might of a hundred men strong
Go safely my friend, relay to your kin
It was man who delivered you free
And tell them that some have good in their hearts
As deep as a bottomless sea
