I bought a book today
And yesterday and the day before
And the day before the day before that day
And maybe four more
It's a habit now
It's a hobby it's a curse
My bookshelf's looking pregnant
And my wallet's looking worse
I tell myself
"Reading is self-care"
But I've built a Jenga tower of paperbacks
That'll kill me if I dare
To sneeze in its direction
Ooh what a sweet confection
Of fantasy and fiction that I'll never read
But hey I'm cultured in theory
Oh my T-B-R is
T-B-R-U-T-A-L
I'll die under a hardback avalanche
And my tombstone will just spell:
"Here lies Pansy-vibes
She bought 'War and Peace' twice
Never read it once
But the aesthetic was nice"
I highlight quotes I never reach
Arrange spines I'll never breach
I buy a planner to organize
Then impulse buy five more bookish supplies
There's a cart on Amazon
There's a cart on Barnes & Noble
There's a cart in IndieBound
There's a cart that's actually just a physical cart
Help
But don't worry
I'm gonna slow down and read what I have first
JUST KIDDING!
New releases drop at dawn
And my restraint is gone
My TBR is too big to fail
It's the Lehman Brothers of Lit
I'm a book dragon
Hoarding pages like gold
I'll be 95 blind as a bat
Still whispering
"Add to hold"
So if you see me in a bookstore
Don't you dare intervene
Let me live let me dream
Let me drown in dopamine
Because every unread book's a promise
A future life I'll lead
Even if I'll never read it
I like that I could read
And that's enough for me
