I went picking flowers, and I found a rose
It seemed like magic only God would know
On a summer's evening, with a distant moon
I found a rosebud not yet in bloom
I watched the petals as they unfold
So soft so tender, and a heart of gold
Like the stars of heaven, with their endless glow
This tender rosebud became a rose
As a young man looking out along life's road
Don't know where I've come from, don't know where I'm going
Life was such a wonder without a care
And the pretty flowers seemed everywhere
I went picking flowers, and I found a rose
It seemed like magic only God would know
On a summer's evening, with a distant moon
I found a rosebud not yet in bloom
Oh I loved their beauty, and their fragrance wild
And the lovely flowers lit up my eyes
But god was watching, and then one day
I picked a rosebud from a grand bouquet
This fair young maiden set my heart aglow
Will I pick this flower? I long to know
Then the winter ended and our love had grown
And I took this rosebud to be my own
Life's like the seasons as they come and go
Sometimes there's sunshine, sometimes there's snow
Yet our love keeps blooming like the flowers grow
Since I share life garden with a lovely rose
I went picking flowers, and I found a rose
It seemed like magic only God would know
On a summer's evening, with a distant moon
I found a rosebud not yet in bloom
