Full Circle

Well we didn't have a dime when I started with the union

But they promised me I'd earn a better wage

We were only in our teens, but that never seemed to matter

She kept me pushing on for brighter days

We bought a little trailer a few acres of woodland

We nearly froze to death our first winter there

We didn't have the internet but I never once heard her lament

She'd just smile when I'd come home with coal dust in my hair

She said better things are coming somewhere down the line

One of these days things are gonna come around full circle

And I'll be the woman waiting by your side

Then one day a letter came talking 'bout some layoffs

But I knew we had enough to get us by

She picked up a second job down at the local tavern

And it kept her out working late each night

And I knew I couldn't hold her anymore

Then a big shot from out town well he came and stole my darlin'

And she left me crying face down on the floor

Well there wasn't much left of my world when she walked out

And it didn't take long to drink away the rest

She's down out at the country club showing off her wedding band

And my old trailer's being repossessed

Well in need of drinking money I sold off my few acres

For fifteen-hundred dollars and a bottle of Beam

But in a mixup of slight, I still owned the mineral rights

To what's become the biggest mine the county's seen

Well I bought out the coal mine and I bought out the sawmill

And I built the biggest house in our whole town

Now she cries herself to sleep underneath her satin sheets

And her husband never loves her and ain't around
