Roy Settles and his buddies were all licked and beat
Just a-wastin' away in the SCSP
They couldn't stand the thought of livin' their whole life behind bars
So they plotted their escape in the prison yard
They stormed the guardhouse with a wooden gun and smashed a few heads
Well, when the warden heard, he called the National Guard
They surrounded Roy Settles and his crew
They shot a can of tear gas through a broken windowpane
Killed the captain in the chaos that ensued
Put their hands up and surrendered as they choked upon the fumes
Their brief adventure ended, pretty soon they'd hear the news
The judge was handing down a sentence
They'd be going to the death house now
On the eve of execution, countin' down the hours 'til dawn
Roy Settles, felt a burnin' in his heart
He wasn't ready to die 'til he made peace with his Lord
So the jailer went and rang a preacher call
He repented, and the men began to sing in the face of death
Five men went to Jesus, but the sixth man spit
As he smoked cigarettes and chewed on bubble gum
He hissed as he said, he's no more than a dog
And after this there's just a black and endless sleep
He looked a little nervous as the current was applied
Roy Settles and the other boys just smiled at the light
Next stop, final destination, the infernal date with Satan
They gathered 'round and sang as one
"May God be with you 'til we meet again"
