I was watching on the news a story about a fire
A mother and her child were saved by a stranger passing by
When they asked the stranger how he found the strength to go inside
A building that's consumed in flames, here's what he replied
He said, "I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
I'm an ordinary working man with kids at home to feed
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
But it's hard for me to turn my back on someone who's in need"
So I started thinking about the times I've seen
People carried from burning buildings or pulled from an angry sea
Or brought up from a dark coal mine, picked off a mountain slope
How many people are alive today because of just plain folks?
How many stories have I read of men so proud and brave
Willing to give their lives up so that others might be saved?
They'll stand up to an angry mob or dive in a stormy sea
Trying to help their fellow man, they're folks like you and me
He said, "I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
I'm an ordinary working man with kids at home to feed
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
But it's hard for me to turn my back on someone who's in need"
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
Just an ordinary working man with kids at home to feed
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
But it's hard for me to turn my back on someone who's in need
Just plain folks, I'm not a hero
I'm an ordinary working man with kids at home to feed
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
But it's hard for me to turn my back on someone who's in need
Just plain folks, I'm not a hero
I'm an ordinary working man with kids at home to feed
I'm just plain folks, I'm not a hero
