The Mirror

Living makes it easy to close your eyes

Shut out the demons that live inside

We've got one life, so they say

So I look in the mirror anyway

Nothing here is what it seems

To change is to ignite

The flame surrounding all we see

In my one life, I saw pain

When the nights outlast the days and they never seem to fade

But the morning sun will shine and good hearts will not be broken

And to this my soul aspires, but the truth remains unspoken

Here lies the soul, killed in its sleep by the ones in control

Buried by pretense and lost in its grave

Unmarked and unmourned by all that it saved

Follow me outside and realise the spirit

Sacrificed by generations who fear it
