A Christmas Wish For Dad

Snow falls gentle

Like a whispered prayer

The tree lights twinkle

But there's an empty chair

Mom says

"Be good

My love

Don't you cry"

But I see her tears when the stars fill the sky

I don't know why Daddy's so far away

I just want him home for Christmas Day

Dear God

Hear my wish tonight

Send Santa with a suit so white

With a hat

A beard

And Daddy's face

To fill our home with love and grace

I asked for a puppy

But that's not true

All I want for Christmas is my dad with you

I've been so good

I've done my chores

But I see the hurt behind closed doors

Why does Mommy sleep all alone?

Why is Daddy just a voice on the phone?

The cookies are waiting

The stockings are hung

But the best gift of all hasn't yet been sung
