Morning glass
Blue and pale
I stand on the pier
Counting the breaths between swells
They roll in slow
Far as I see
Each one a stranger
Wearing the shape of the sea
Giants in the tide
Rising
Falling
Here
Then gone from view
Waves on the sea
Keep turning
Turning
New in the light
But old as the moon
I keep on changing
Every time they move
Sun leans low
Gold on gray
Kids chase foam
Like it might run away
From the cliffs
They look small
Almost still
From this close edge
They're teeth and will
Giants in the tide
Rising
Falling
Here
Then gone from view
Waves on the sea
Keep turning
Turning
New in the light
But old as the moon
I keep on changing
Every time they move
Under the storm sky
They tower
Green walls
White crowns
Wild power
I feel small
Feel wide
At the same time
From the dunes
Just lines on a page
From this rock
They roar and rage
coming as giants
Slipping away
