October thirtieth, 2015
Was a day that felt like one out of a dream
Not a good one though, more like a nightmare
Because I had to leave behind everyone
About whom I cared
The house was packed up, not a thing left
Everything had been vacuumed, mopped, and swept
Boxes everywhere, holding all the things
That I could take with me
And to those things I would cling
Cause I couldn't take the people, I couldn't take their smiles
I couldn't take the promise of a friendship beyond time
I couldn't take the classrooms, where so much fun was had
And I couldn't take the distance, I was anything but glad
It was a wacky dress up day, everyone in costume
Though I found it hard to laugh due to my extensive gloom
Said all of my goodbyes, everyone was crying
And the school bell rang, I'd run all out of time
I couldn't take the people, I couldn't take their smiles
I couldn't take the promise of a friendship beyond time
I couldn't take the classrooms, where so much fun was had
And I couldn't take the distance, I was anything but glad
I went for a visit, their faces filled with hope
"Are you coming back?" were the words everyone spoke
And with tear-filled eyes, I shook my head
Knowing I couldn't come back filled my heart with dread
I couldn't take the people, I couldn't take their smiles
I couldn't take the promise of a friendship beyond time
I couldn't take the classrooms, where so much fun was had
And I couldn't take the distance, I was anything but glad
I couldn't take the people, I couldn't take their smiles
I couldn't take the promise of a friendship beyond time
I couldn't take the classrooms, where so much fun was had
And I couldn't take the distance, I was anything but glad
I was anything but glad
