This next song is just that
It's my memories of Christmas as a child
And I like to call it Christmas in the country holiday
Well here it is Christmas time
And I was walking down the street the other day
And heard cell phones going off
And pagers beeping and horns were honking
And people were all uptight
Let's take a little trip down memory lane shall we
There now, ease on back and close your eyes
Remember mama's turkey, that smell would go out through the house
Look at that Christmas tree all decorated up with popcorn on strings
Hear that fire crackling in the fireplace
It was a good time wasn't it?
When it wasn't about presents or gifts or faxing or cell phones
It was just about you together with your family
You know what we call that?
We used to call it an old fashioned country Christmas
How 'bout you?
We may not give the finer things
Like mink coats and diamond rings
But what we give comes from the heart
And that's okay
Spending time with those we love
Thankful to the Lord above
For a Christmas in the country holiday
You know a wise man once said that money can't buy you happiness
Well let me tell you a little story
One year was particularly hard on my daddy
It seemed the harder he worked the more the debts came in
And we just couldn't make ends meet
So we decided as a family that we weren't gonna buy our toys
We were gonna make our gifts for each other
So we each drew a name out of the hat
And we made a gift for that person
And to this day that's the best gift I ever got
Because it came from the heart
We may not give the finer things
Like mink coats and diamond rings
But what we give comes from the heart
And that's okay
Spending time with those we love
Thankful to the Lord above
For a Christmas in the country holiday
You wanna know what my favorite time of Christmas is?
It's the Christmas Eve candlelight service
Where everybody's standing up and they're holding hands
And candles and they're singing Silent Night
That's my favorite time of year because I love that song
And for that one brief shining moment on this planet
There's no hate, there's no racism, and there's no bias
And I stand there and I think to myself
If we can do this in this one little hour
I know we can do it all year long
We may not give the finer things
Like mink coats and diamond rings
But what we give comes from the heart
And that's okay
Spending time with those we love
Thankful to the Lord above
For a Christmas in the country holiday
For a Christmas in the country holiday
Well I hope that brought back some good memories for ya
I know it did for me
I'm sitting here in my den, the fireplace is going
And I've got a, well I've got about an empty glass of eggnog
Honey, could I get another glass of eggnog please?
Thank you sweetheart
Alright folks, we're gonna change gears now
