Shattered Sanctuary

The silence screams within these hollow walls

A shadow dances where the moonlight falls

I am a ghost inside my own design

Tracing the borders of a broken line

I reach for hands that never seem to be

A desperate hunger for some company

To feel a heartbeat close against my own

In this cold desert where I've always grown

The iron bars are forged of my own fear

The exit fades each time I draw it near

I'm anchored to a floor that's giving way

Caught in the twilight of a dying day

A civil war is raging in my chest

The peace I seek is just a fleeting guest

I want to fly, but gravity is stone

I want the world, but I am here alone

To break these chains would mean to burn it all

To watch the heavens and the earth both fall

Total destruction is the only key

To set the monster or the angel free

And yet the fire flickers in the dark

A tiny flame, a long-forgotten spark

I crave the light, I crave the "something more"

While banging bloodied fists against the door
