We say equal, but it doesn't feel right
Different rules when we live out this life
Who really wins when we both keep score?
One gives all, one asks for more
Truth gets lost in this role we play
Love feels different day by day
Tell me, what's it really worth?
Love or money, what comes first?
Back in the day
Men paying for dates was more than okay
It was the norm
Women were deemed dependent from the day they were born
First from their fathers, then from a husband
Men were the main source of women being funded
It made sense
Women stayed at home, so why would they pay a cent?
But what did rights and equality truly represent?
How could you escape your boxes and labels
Yet still give us the torment?
Do we belittle by paying, or respect and pretend?
Don't you see that this world is a bit of a mess?
We say equal, but it doesn't feel right
Different rules when we live out this life
Who really wins when we both keep score?
One gives all, one asks for more
Truth gets lost in this role we play
Love feels different day by day
Tell me, what's it really worth?
Love or money, what comes first?
The human female varies more than African dialects
Yet they all want wealth and the status
All the purses, the pets, and a palace
And I agree
The talking phase should eliminate debris
But it's the women who are truly being free
Men give up their rights when they commit to a marriage
But they lose it all when they buy into a carriage
I know there is good and bad
On both sides of the genders
But men are the ones who are mostly contenders
We seek, we try, we conquer, yet we fry
Women have the government truly on their side
The deadbeats are trash
We can solve that like math
There are no absolutes
But the favoritism favors you
Give that nice guy a chance
And you'll see that you'll last
I guarantee there's a "beta"
Orbiting your path
The basketball's on your court
And I don't even know sports
Good men get crossed
Fade away when they get divorced
You rebound with haste, no remorse
The existing chivalry, you distort
And you can read all of that in the news reports
We say equal, but it doesn't feel right
Different rules when we live out this life
Who really wins when we both keep score?
One gives all, one asks for more
Truth gets lost in this role we play
Love feels different day by day
Tell me, what's it really worth?
Love or money, what comes first?
