Descent Into Madness

Here I now stand

In the chamber of the wicked

In awe of the darkness I stare

By fear himself, I have been stricken

In the middle lie a slab of stone

As if it hides the thing I seek

Correct indeed, I remove the stone

To reveal an aperture of shadowy deep

As my eyes adjust to the darkness

I slowly come to see

That the stairs down to the nether

Is now here, right beneath me

Reveals itself to me

For every step I take

I lose myself even further

My senses one by one start to fail

Slowly giving in to the usurper

I continue my descent

for hours, on hours in blackness

I feel my body going numb

Rest assured I'm on the path towards the realm

Between life and death

I'm nearing the end of the steps

I see a glimpse of light

And find myself taking deeper breaths

I have come to the hallway of the night
