Now listen
I seen a lot of things in that church house
But the other day somethin broke my heart
It wasn't the music it wasn't the choir
It was the way we forgot what mercy looked like
They said We havin a Day of Givin
Bring your thousand raise another thousand
Then this sister stepped up gave all she had
Twelve hundred thirty five
And the preacher said
That's only twelve hundred that's not what I asked you to do
Now the saints fell quiet the room got cold
That woman stood there with a heart of gold
Her boy by her side still smilin proud
But faith got crushed right there in that crowd
You tithe your mint your dill your cumin too
But you forgot what the Lord told you to do
Justice mercy faithfulness true
That's what He asked from me and you
That's not what He asked you to do
See Jesus don't count dollars He counts the heart
And He don't need no spreadsheet to tell us apart
She gave her best that's more than a few
But pride got louder than the good it could do
You can wear fine robes drive fancy cars
But Heaven ain't impressed by who you are
He said Feed my sheep not Build your view
So preacher remember that ain't what He asked you to do
Yeah He said
You should've practiced the latter
Without neglectin the former
That means
Give your tenth if you must
But don't forget the love in your touch
Cause a cold heart in a warm church
Ain't foolin God much
Justice
Mercy
Faithfulness and love
That's the real tithe God's thinkin of
You can raise the roof you can shout and dance
But if you shame the weak you missed your chance
Cause when you turn away the humble few
That's not what He asked you to do
Now I ain't talkin down to the preacher
But I am talkin up to the people
Cause one day the Lord gon ask
How'd you treat the least of these
And I hope we can answer
Lord we tried to do
Exactly what You asked us to do
