I chased a dream all day
Watching it fly in the air
I chased it clean away
And I can't find it anywhere
I never saw one familiar face
And I'm wondering just what's wrong with this place
I wandered into the east
On early closing day
Looking for the ones
Who decided that they would stay
All of my friends should be here soon
But I'm tired of travelling
And my piano's out of tune
I don't know why I'm here
Or what I expect to find
Maybe I'm looking for something
That I might have left behind
I chased a dream all day
Watching it fly in the air
I chased it clean away
And I can't find it anywhere
I never saw one familiar face
And I'm wondering just what's wrong with this place
Standing on the main road
Taking the view of the bay
Watching where the river flows
And the sea takes it away
Watching the fisherman casting his line
And the paper mill men working out their time
I think I'll have to go and write her a letter
Or maybe I'll telephone
Although yesterday would have been a whole lot better
I chased a dream all day
Watching it fly in the air
I chased it clean away
I've been looking for it everywhere
All of my friends should be here soon
But I'm tired of travelling
And my piano's out of tune
