I'll never forget
As I walked up to the counter
And she cleared a space for me
When I sat down
She smiled and poured a coffee
I noticed a small tattoo
Of dandelion heads
Peaking out from a shirt sleeve
Hopeful to be seen
I couldn't help
But ask her for the story
Beautifully inked in her skin
She said
Wildflowers grow in broken places
Blown by the wind to distant spaces
The only home they know is familiar faces
Doing whatever it takes they know
It only takes little light to grow
Just take a look, they're all around you
Wildflowers know, wildflowers grow
Didn't take long
She was showing me the pictures
All of the places she'd been
A series of lives
Of planting roots then pulling
And settling somewhere new
Another town another name
Another place somehow the same
Just to begin again
Wildflowers grow in broken places
Blown by the wind to distant spaces
The only home they know is familiar faces
Doing whatever it takes they know
It only takes little light to grow
Just take a look, they're all around you
Wildflowers know, wildflowers grow
Unseen unsung
But never come undone
Building strength
For the change to come
She said
Wildflowers grow in broken places
Blown by the wind to distant spaces
The only home they know is familiar faces
Doing whatever it takes they know
It only takes little light to grow
Just take a look, they're all around you
Wildflowers know, wildflowers grow
