Y'all just protest and post on social media
Maybe I can help
Can I say a little something?
I come from Atlanta
You know the Black Mecca?
Dr. King was born a street away from me
I think about the days when
I was a younger me
Hungry, in the streets rummaging
And I was naïve, cuz I sang at the top of my lungs
We'll fight, fight, with my friends
Oh, there's something I gotta tell you though
It's a little bit of a miracle
I took the boat but I didn't even steer it yo
You brought us to the New World
And this is how you treat us folks?
And I thought about it everyday
I got a lotta hatred in my veins you say?
Instead of grabbin' a gat I put the words on a page
And sprayed
I organized a protest in the name of
Those who was slayed
Killed and maimed
And this is how we got played
So we were out there in the streets and my neighbor was there
And I guess a cop was pissed off or something
He pushed her to the ground
And started putting his handcuffs on her, she started screaming
So you motherfuckers think you can come and get us
Toss us into your vehicles
And arrest us
Cause you never think of our mental health
Or stability, or ability
Yeah
We built the United States for you
You can have the old money we only got new money
Though that's why we stick together collectively
Where is the empathy?
The FBI wanted MLK to die
That's a lot for right now
But here's the reason why I said it
Only when the white people came to march
With the civil rights mission
Is when the entire nation listened
Only after they battered a white preacher
Only after they killed Jimmie Lee Jackson
And dismantled our freedoms
Only after the police tear gassed and beat
Every black human being in the street
It's only been 52 years since that
Now White Lives Matter to kids that think that
General Lee is great history
Along with the great Confederate Flag
"But black lives are a joke"
"They go blap blap and die"
When did the history end, or are we still in it?
I don't mean to be condescending Jenny
But it's easy to protest in places where the comforts at
I've had it with that
And he just kept going
And we all watched in fear
And I thought to myself
This isn't what got us here
Not being active, so I grabbed her hand
And tried to help her out
Hey!
Put your hands up
You have the right to remain silent
Anything you say can and
Will be used against you in the court of law
Now get in the fucking car
And I was naïve
Cause I sang at the top of my lungs
We'll fight, fight
With my friends
