Texas Snowfall

North Dallas quiet, streets turned white

Snow falling heavy in the streetlight

Breath in the air cuts like a knife

Didn't expect this kind of winter life

Walked to my car, keys in my hand

Pulled the door hard, it wouldn't stand

Ice locked tight, wouldn't let go

Fingers numb in the Texas snow

I kept pulling, cursing the cold

Finally cracked it, the door let go

Snow falling slow on my windshield glass

North Dallas frozen, time won't pass

Cold in my bones, heat turned on low

Just me and the night and the falling snow

Sat in the driver's seat, breath like smoke

Car so cold it felt like a joke

Turned the key, let the engine start

Defrost blowing, waiting in the dark

One whole hour just watching it fall

Snow piling high on the window wall

Ice and white as far as I know

Streetlights dancing in a silver glow

Finally rolling, wheels on ice

Hands tight on the wheel, didn't feel nice

Drove to the store for something warm

Lights all dark, closed till the storm

Pulled in the lot just to be sure

Doors locked tight, no help no more

Sat there mad, staring straight ahead

Cold night talking inside my head

Texas winters hit different now

Didn't see this coming, don't ask how

Snow in a place that don't slow down

Even the city shut itself down
