My neighbor the werewolf
In a house on a street that is very like yours
There lived a bright little girl, and her name was George
She loved playing and biking and to swim in the pool
And all the fun things, that kids know are cool
But though George was happy through all of her days
There weren't many children, with whom she could play
Her parents were too busy working at home
And all George wanted was a friend of her own
One evening, a family moved in across the street
Who no one would speak to, and no one would meet
For these neighbours preferred to keep out of sight
And would only come out on a few special nights
George often wondered who lived in that house
Who they all were and why they never came out
But when she asked her parents if she could go see
They sent her to bed without any tea
Then late one night, poor George lay awake
Her stomach all empty and starting to ache
She heard from outside a snuffling growl
A shuffling, a scuffling and a tiny wolf howl
George crept to the window on the edge of her room
Lit by the glow of a silver full moon
And gasped as she saw, staring straight back at her
A face at the window all covered in fur
George wanted to scream and rush back to bed
And throw the covers right over her head
And she almost did so, right up until
She saw a pile of sweets on the windowsill
She gobbled them up with a happy delight
And the small furry face disappeared from sight
Leaving George to wonder just who she had seen
And whether they'd known how hungry she'd been
So George kept a lookout for many more nights
To watch for whoever had caused her the fright
And a few weeks later, at the next full moon
The sound of howling again reached her room
But this time George was much less afraid
And hurried outside with some cakes she had made
To the mysterious dark house across the street
To find the friend who had left her the sweets
Creeping across the moonlit grass
George climbed to the window and knocked on the glass
And just as she wondered where the neighbours were
She saw a little boy werewolf waving right back at her
Hello, said George
Pleased we could meet?
I'm your new neighbour from across the street
I do like to share, and I have plenty of treats
You look really hungry
Here's something to eat
Thank you, said the werewolf
But aren't you afraid?
The other children run when I ask them to play
My parents work nights, so they're never around
And I've been ever so lonely since we moved to this town
Don't worry, said George
I know what that's like
But now we can swim and go riding our bikes
My name is George
Now what about you?
George, smiled the werewolf
Why, that's my name too
The two Georges laughed and talked through the night
About biscuits and chocolates and the things that they liked
For though they were different, they were still much the same
And by the time that George left, they had play dates arranged
And so every week, George went over the road
To have her tea at the werewolf's home
But then once a month, she'd spend the whole night playing for hours
In the full moon's light
The Georges stayed friends for many more years
And soon showed their families there was nothing to fear
Their parents found out their neighbours were good
And that some monsters aren't evil, just misunderstood
