On an old dirt road south of my hometown
Where the sun sets slow, and the church bells sound
I see the footprints left behind
By the ones I love, through the sands of time
Daddy's suits pressed and Bible in hand
Mama held down the home with four to command
Each step they took, they paved my way
With faith and love, come what may
Through the footprints of life, I see
A path that's been laid out for me
Through the highs and lows, the joy, the strife
God walks beside me in the footprints of life
My daddy was a preacher and a hard workin' man
He preached to the lost all across this land
He'd give you the shirt off his back without a doubt
Even if it meant we might have to do without
There were times we stumbled, times we fell
Through lessons learned, I've got stories to tell
Sometimes I questioned if God was still there
But I could always look back, and see how much He cared
Through the footprints of life, I see
A path that's been laid out for me
Through the highs and lows, the joy, the strife
God walks beside me in the footprints of life
We had this picture poem hung up on the wall in our home
It gave me comfort, if I ever felt alone
In the dark times, two sets of prints became just one
Because God carries us through till the morning sun
I know no matter what I'm going through
God has the power to make all things new
Through the footprints of life, I see
A path that's been laid out for me
Through the highs and lows, the joy, the strife
God walks beside me in the footprints of life
God walks beside me in the footprints of life
