Before the steel and satellites
There was a temple here
Now it's a bank
Same gods
New logos
The priests wear badges
Their robes are pressed
And the incense smells
Like printer toner
The floor is polished bone
You think it's marble
But you've never asked
Each step echoes a vow
Made by someone
Who no longer breathes
But whose debts
Still compound interest
In your name
The tower sleeps beneath us
Coiled in time
Dreaming of blood and thunder
We build upward
But never away-
Just closer to the fire
That gave us
Our first law
In the break room
Someone leaves an apple
On the counter
It glows
No one eats it
Everyone knows
What happened last time
A serpent curls
In the wiring
It whispers to the HVAC
To the phone lines
to the code
It speaks in uptime
And encryption-
And it always gets
What it wants
The tower sleeps beneath us
Coiled in time
Dreaming of blood and thunder
We build upward
but never away-
just closer to the fire
that gave us
our first law
One day it will rise
Not with a roar-
But a notification
And you will answer
Not out of fear-
But because
You've always known
You were part
Of the offering
