That's How the Yodel Was Born

A wanderin' cowboy ridin' down the trail

Heard the night wind singin' with a mournful wail

He felt so lonesome when he heard their song

So he started hummin' and that's how the yodel was born

He heard the love song of a whippoorwill

And the lonely echo from a far-off hill

Then he remembered how he said goodbye

To the girl who loved him and the way that she cried

He always would love her but he couldn't stay

'Cause a lonesome whistle called him away

He was born to wander out where he belonged

On the open prairie just yodelin' a song

And that's how the yodel was born
