This Jesus you've heard about is not who they say he is
He did not come to start wars and draw swords
He came to serve
He did not come to condemn sinners
He came to heal and empower them
He did not come to start a religion
He came to universalize God
So that even the powerless can experience the love of their creator
He did not come to confront the hungry
But the full, powerful, and religious
He did not come to die but to show us how to live
Jesus is not just for the conservatives or progressives
He is not a political pawn to be used to justify our grasping for power
Jesus is the light of the whole world, not just America
God's kingdom is for all of the earth, not just heaven
This is not a kingdom of control and might, but sacrifice and service
Jesus bore a cross and invites us to do the same
The resurrection of life cannot happen without death and suffering
This is good news
News of love, not power
News of inclusion, not exclusion
News of mercy, not condemnation
News of compassion, not control
News of giving, not hoarding
Jesus is love
God is love
And love is the gospel
And this is damn good news
