I watched the cars pass by, leaving one by one
And it's the same burnt out aesthetic of a summer night and a setting sun
But as the dusk rolls in to wake up the streetlights, the city it starts to glow
I see a beauty I've been missing, feel a spark of life like a long-lost friend I used to know
Fast forward to a January night, it's thirty one below
And it's the same wind that leaves you breathless, a cold that cuts into your bones
But the moon and stars, they shine so bright, bringing out diamonds in the snow
Like the view of the town that I was born in, from the hills I used to go to when I was young
And we grasped a hold onto our youth while these shadows lengthen in the sun
And our scars, they show the view of days we've lost and nights we've won
And the chill in this autumn air, well it can't help but make me feel alive
And I'm done just sitting here, waiting for the hours to go by
But sometimes you feel lost in all these places, burning nights down to the wire
And you can't always replace the things you lost in the fire
And these tattered spiral notebooks show my history and who I am
And a lot of parts are in pencil
But some parts are in pen
And there's still another empty page waiting to be written
